Job Description:

The School of Journalism seeks applicants for a tenure-track faculty position (#143060) as an Assistant or Associate Professor of Advertising and Strategic Communication. The department seeks an enthusiastic candidate who exhibits teaching excellence, maintains an active research or creative agenda and ensures student success through mentoring, participating in service and providing exceptional learning opportunities. The position begins August 1, 2017.

Our new colleague will understand the intersection of advertising, strategic communication and public relations. Teaching responsibilities include courses such as Foundations of Advertising, Advertising and Strategic Communication Case Studies, Copywriting, Interactive Advertising and Social Media, Strategic Communication Research Methods, and Campaigns. The ability to teach media strategy and buying is highly desirable. Other responsibilities include developing a creative or research and service agenda in support of tenure and promotion. Additional responsibilities include student mentoring, advising the student advertising club and school service.

Our faculty are committed to an educational model that balances the development of professional skills with a broader understanding of the history, ethics and social impact of the media. We have a tradition of balancing excellence in teaching, with creative activity/research and service. Members of our faculty include editors and former editors of national journals, prominent former journalists, and researchers with distinguished records and active research agendas. MTSU is located in Murfreesboro, TN, about 35 miles from Nashville, and offers a low cost of living and high quality of life.Required Education:

  • Earned doctorate in Advertising, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, or related field.
  • ABDs due to be completed by August 1, 2017 will be considered.

Required Related Experience:

  • Applicants must have at least three years of professional experience in advertising, public relations or strategic communication.
  • Candidates will also have a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, research or creative activity, and service.
