The Wells College Visual Arts Program invites applicants for a Full Time, Tenure-Track position in Art History to begin in August 2019. The Program seeks a committed educator with specialty in Contemporary Art History and passion for teaching in a Liberal Arts environment. This position serves as the primary faculty member for the College’s Art History curriculum, and is responsible for introductory to upper-level courses in the field.
The successful candidate will demonstrate ability to teach critical theories and methodologies, and will apply such approaches throughout the curriculum. Global and intersectional approaches to the Art History curriculum are expected. Opportunities exist to develop new courses and to collaborate on the development of new curriculum in the Visual Arts. The successful candidate will facilitate and respond to diverse student learning needs.
The Visual Arts Program offers a B.A. in Visual Art, with concentrations available in Art History, Book Arts, and Studio Art. The appointment includes a 3/3 teaching load, mentoring undergraduate senior thesis work in Art History, and the committee service, scholarship, student advising, and departmental collaboration necessary for tenure-track advancement.

· Ph.D. in Art History or Visual Studies (with demonstrable ability to offer general Art History survey courses), completed by August 2019
· Documented publishing and/or professional experience
· Experience teaching in a higher education setting
· Sub-specialties in Design, Book, or Media Studies/History; Women’s & Gender Studies; and/or Museum Studies.
