Under the direction of the Dean, the Assistant Dean of Teaching Practice Partnerships cultivates, coordinates, and takes a lead project management role in partnering between SAAHP (School of Architecture, Art, and Historic Preservation) and corporate, non-profit, academic, government, and other external partners in support of the school’s teaching practice partnership projects.
Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:
Manage course, research and consortia funded projects supported by foundations such as 1772 Foundation, industry partners such as Tremco Sustainable Practices Partnership, non-profits such as Newport Restoration Foundation, Archive of Rhode Island Architecture with multiple non-profit and government partners and academic collaborations.
Career Investment Program / AXP Architect Licensing Advisor
Cultivate firms and lead the administration of the SAAHP Career Investment Program, providing a significant number of annual paid placements through the school students off-campus and on-campus with more than $400,000 in available funding. Includes serving as the School’s AXP Architect Licensing Advisor.
SAAHP Partners Council
Assist with Council representatives from partner academic, corporate, non-profit, government and individuals, to foster more active participation than is often achieved in conventional advisory structures. Partners work together for mutual interest, supporting each other through undertakings which have joint benefit.
Teaching Firm in Residence Program
Cultivate professional/career development engagement opportunities for with firms to participate in this distinctive SAAHP teaching program.
Oversee funded project collaborations, particularly at the graduate level, involving firms, foundations, government and academic collaborations with other institutions nationally and internationally.
Collaborate through SAAHP Knowledge Forums with practitioners, non-profits, government and others. Assess effectiveness of collaborative academic/professional efforts.
Teach one architectural design studio course each year.
- Professional degree and licensure in Architecture
- Minimum 5 years practice experience in firms, non-profit or academic setting.
- Strong organizational and collaborative skills able to connect and foster collaboration between professional, academic, non-profit, government sections on projects.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills to interact with faculty, students, visitors and staff.
- Ability to work independently, with little or no supervision.
- Graduate degree in Architecture
- Experience on larger scale complex projects involving multiple sectors/stakeholders, (corporate, non-profit, government).
- Experience with historic preservation and planning.
