Department of Modern Languages, Anthropology and Geography
Our anthropology program is searching for an engaging and energetic teacher who can offer introductory and advanced courses for both majors and non-majors. The ideal candidate would excel in teaching both sociocultural and linguistic anthropology. We are particularly interested in applicants with a demonstrable dedication to undergraduate education and with an appreciation of the regional service mission of a mid-sized university. The successful candidate will clearly communicate a vision for contributing to a rigorous four-field anthropology curriculum that also provides individualized student support and opportunities for student success.
- Teach undergraduate classes, primarily face-to-face with some online
- Recruit and advise students
- Maintain a schedule of office hours
- Attend department meetings and engage in service
- Maintain an active research program with opportunities for student participation
- PhD or ABD (Degree completed by August 2018) in Anthropology with training and expertise in cultural and/or linguistic anthropology (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university.)
- Regional specialization in the Americas
- Experience and/or training in applied linguistics, language preservation/revitalization, or structural linguistic analysis
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at college/university level as graduate assistant, instructor, or above
- Active research program with opportunities for student involvement
- Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education and student research opportunities
- Willingness and demonstrated ability to teach both face-to-face and online courses
- Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
- Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
- Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities
