Job description

The Department of English and Humanities at St. Thomas University invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Creative Writing with a specialization in fiction or poetry and an ability to teach courses in composition beginning January 2019. The university seeks an energetic professor who will develop a trustee-mandated creative writing program in the coming years. We are especially interested in a candidate who might contribute to the university’s new Monsignor Casale Honors College and student interest in screenwriting. The teaching load is 4/4 with a majority of first-year undergraduate courses in composition.

The best candidate will enhance our curriculum by expanding our offerings in creative writing and student success. We value diversity and strive to attract qualified women and minority candidates. We welcome individuals whose teaching and scholarship can bring African American, Latinx, Asian, and global perspectives to campus. Preference will also be given to candidates who show experience working with students whose narratives are underrepresented in academia and the publishing world.

Qualifications: PhD in Creative Writing or MFA with publications will be considered. ABD will be considered if the PhD will be in hand by August 15, 2019.

Responsibilities: Applicants must be prepared to work closely with a diverse undergraduate student body. Primary teaching responsibilities will include first-year undergraduate courses in composition.

Starting Date: 1 January 2019

Compensation: Salary and rank commensurate with academic credentials and qualifications and experience.
