The School of Business at Whitworth University invites applications for a tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Management position. A Ph.D. or D.B.A. in management or a related field is required and, depending on experience, a commensurate record of quality research and publications in the management field.

THE SCHOOL:
Whitworth’s School of Business (WSB) is recruiting scholars who can contribute to its effort to achieve and maintain AACSB accreditation. The WSB is committed to providing students with an outstanding business and economics education with a strong liberal arts foundation. Small class sizes combined with close interaction between students and faculty enable our graduates to learn the essential professional skills and knowledge to successfully compete for positions in the global marketplace. The undergraduate degree program is one of the largest on campus with an estimated 16% of all Whitworth students choosing to major in business and economics areas. The school offers both a traditional undergraduate degree in business and economics with concentrations in marketing, management, accounting, economics, and finance, and a unique undergraduate degree completion program in organizational management for non-traditional students offered in concert with Whitworth’s School of Continuing Studies. The WSB graduate program also provides an excellent Master of Business Administration degree.

FACULTY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position includes the opportunity to teach in all three of Whitworth’s business degree programs: traditional undergraduate, non-traditional undergraduate (Continuing Studies), and graduate business studies.

A primary focus of this positon is to help incorporate business analytics into the WSB curriculum. This includes working with other disciplines to help develop programming in this area. In addition, because we are a small school, applicants should be interested in teaching a wide variety of management classes. In particular, qualifications to teach operations, strategy, and/or other areas of our management curriculum are highly valued. WSB faculty consists of active teacher-scholars and applicants are expected to maintain a research agenda and publish regularly in business journals. Whitworth University has a very supportive teaching and research culture and provides excellent support for scholarship. An interest in interdisciplinary research and co-authorship with WSB colleagues is encouraged. Applicants are also expected to actively participate in important university, school and departmental support and service responsibilities (e.g. faculty governance, mentoring, development, and student advising). Collegiality is essential at Whitworth University.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • A Ph.D. or D.B.A. degree in management or a related field. Applicants that are ABD will be considered for the position if they are currently in the process of completing their doctoral degree and have a definite completion date before August 2019.
  • Must be academically qualified in management with a willingness to teach courses in all areas of the management discipline.
  • Must be qualified in the field of business analytics and able to contribute to curricular development in this area.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in college-level undergraduate and/or graduate teaching, possessing strong relational skills with students and colleagues.
  • Evidence of scholarly activity and an ongoing stream of research in the field of management.
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English.
  • Demonstrated awareness and commitment to effectively establishing relationships and positive communications across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to race, gender, physical limitations, class or religious perspectives.
  • Must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States by the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue to work legally for the proposed term of employment.
