The Biology Department has 30 faculty members as well as research technicians and post-doctoral researchers. In addition to the main campus in Bowling Green, we employ instructors at several satellite campuses throughout the region. Our student body comprises approximately 750 undergraduate students (across four majors) and 50 M.S. students pursuing thesis and non-thesis degrees. The Department of Biology (http://www.wku.edu/biology/) at Western Kentucky University invites applications for a tenure track eligible ASSISTANT PROFESSOR position to begin August 2018. Candidates with expertise in vertebrate physiology are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a productive research program that includes undergraduate and M.S. students and to pursue extramural funding. We particularly seek applicants who integrate a combination of contemporary genomic, molecular, cellular and/or computational techniques to answer fundamental questions in physiology in order to build on current departmental strengths.
Teaching assignments will likely include animal physiology as well as other undergraduate and graduate courses in the candidate’s area of expertise. Additionally, candidates should be strongly dedicated to undergraduate-level teaching and incorporate active-learning methods into their pedagogy. Service activities at all levels of the university will be expected, as well as academic and professional mentoring to students, in particular those in our pre-professional health programs.
The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. or equivalent, relevant post-doctoral experience, and evidence of research productivity through peer-reviewed publication and grantsmanship.
