Job Summary

This is a 9-month, tenure-track appointment with potential for summer employment. The candidate would join a dynamic sport science and coaching program that has active relationships with sporting organizations that span the competitive spectrum from youth to professional. Within the Department of Sport, Exercise, Recreation, and Kinesiology this individual will be instrumental in furthering the program’s objective of preparing students with outstanding classroom and experiential learning opportunities in order to become competent professionals within Sport Physiology/ Sport Science/ Coaching.

As such, this individual is preferred to have a background in sport biomechanics, kinesiology, and sport physiology in order to better complete a team dynamic. Responsibilities (include but not limited to): Advise, and mentor Graduate and Undergraduate students; maintain an active research agenda with a focused research line in the area of sport science that results in continued scholarly achievement and potential for external grant funding; and engage in professional service activities. Research should be compatible with the goals of the SERK Department and Center of Excellence for Sport Science and Coach Education (CESSCE).

Candidates should be able to teach a variety of courses including graduate level Statistics, Instrumentation, Sport Biomechanics and undergraduate Structural Kinesiology. The candidate will be expected to play an active role in the ETSU/CESSCE athlete monitoring program. The candidate should also have a strong interest and background in dealing with the training process, coaching and sport performance and be capable of independently directing Master’s theses and Doctoral dissertations.

Required Qualifications

Earned doctorate in Sport Physiology or Sport Biomechanics, or related areas, (will consider ABD if the degree is awarded before August 1, 2019).

Candidate should be an emerging scholar in Sport Science with potential for an active research agenda; potential excellence in higher education teaching and service and ability to use technology in teaching, research and service.

Preferred Qualifications

This individual is preferred to have a background in sport biomechanics, kinesiology, and sport physiology in order to better complete a team dynamic. Preference will also be given to candidates who demonstrate knowledge of diversity, skills in addressing needs of diverse groups and an appreciation for multiculturalism.
