Job Summary

The Department of Curriculum & Instruction invites applications for an Assistant Professor in Bilingual Education or Curriculum and Instruction or Reading with 18 graduate hours in Bilingual Education or ESL. Candidates should have an earned doctorate in Bilingual Education or an earned doctorate in Reading or Curriculum and Instruction, or related field, with an academic specialization (18 graduate hours) in Bilingual Education. The position will begin in the Fall 2018 semester, and will include duties at the main campus, the Mesquite Metroplex campus, online and potentially other sites. Candidates must demonstrate a record of (or potential for) research and publication, grant procurement, and a desire for continuous learning.

Major/Essential Duties of Job

Primary responsibilities include: 1) teaching undergraduate, masters or doctoral level courses; 2) designing, implementing, and publishing research 3) advising students; 4) team teaching field-based courses; 5) serving as a liaison to observe and mentor students in field-based settings 6) working collaboratively with faculty and staff to implement departmental programs and Student Learning Outcome Assessments; 7) working with public school partners and community colleges on collaborative projects and mutual goals; 8) providing professional development and mentor teacher training; 9) providing service to the department, college, university and public schools, and community; and 10) continual learning to stay current with research, best practices in teaching, and technological applications in the classroom, including online teaching.

Required Education and Experience

  • Earned Doctorate in Bilingual Education or earned doctorate in Reading or Curriculum and Instruction with an academic specialization (at least 18 graduate hours) in bilingual education or ESL instruction. Reading, or other academic subject taught in elementary schools; (ABD may be considered if graduation occurs by August 2018).
  • Minimum of Three years of K-6 teaching experience.
  • Scholarly publication record or scholarly potential.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a team of professionals.
  • Academic Spanish Proficiency.

Preferred Education and Experience

Bilingual Education Doctorate; University level teaching experience; experience in field-based teacher education programs; and online teaching experience. K-3 Spanish dual language or transitional bilingual teacher of record.
