The Department of Physics in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank with a start date of August 15, 2018. Biophysics is a new thrust area for the Department of Physics. In the future, we envision developing a group consisting of one theorist and two experimentalists in this area with substantial connections to Chemistry, the College of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Medical Center. We are searching for an outstanding researcher with interests in the area of theoretical/computational or experimental biophysics who can play a leadership role in developing this group. The successful candidate is expected to establish an excellent research program, to acquire external funding to support it, and to develop into a high-quality teacher in Physics at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.

Applications from both theoretical/computational and experimental physicists are encouraged. Candidates at all faculty ranks will be considered. Research areas within biophysics that are of interest include (but are not restricted to) quantitative biology, soft condensed matter and biological materials, statistical physics of living systems, experiments and modeling of complexity in biological systems, experiments and modeling of molecular to intercellular processes, biological and chemical sensing, and the interface between biological and physical systems. Computational Physicists who develop new physics using new algorithms for new computational hardware are encouraged to apply, particularly those that are developing methods in machine learning and deep learning techniques. Experimental physicists who use or develop new experimental techniques in biological systems are also encouraged to apply.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSApplicants must have a Ph.D. in Physics or Biophysics, should preferentially have at least two years of postdoctoral research experience, and should have a record of substantial research accomplishments.
