About the College/Department

The University of Arkansas- Fayetteville (UAF) and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) have partnered to develop this clinical OTD. The program will prepare graduates:

  • To challenge the boundaries of current occupational therapy practice through purposeful exploration of new models of care
  • To be innovative practitioners, identifying needs in their clinics & communities and designing interventions & programs to meet those needs
  • Who are prepared to work at the top of their license in integrated interprofessional teams to best meet societies’ needs
  • To be active global citizens and advocates for occupational justice and improved quality of life for all people
  • To promote health, wellness, and participation through the intentional use of occupation

Twenty four students will be admitted to the program in the 2019-2020 academic year, and the program will grow to 32 students per three-year cohort by 2024. There will be learning spaces on both campus (1 mile apart) and in an OT House.

Summary of Job Duties

The Clinical Assistant Professor will work with the program director and OT faculty in this developing OTD program to design the curriculum, develop course content and lab activities, and establish relationships with community partners. This is a 12-month non-tenure faculty position with significant teaching, student advisement, and mentoring responsibilities. Service, participation in student projects, and some scholarship are also required.

All faculty in this program will be expected to participate in practice and in the supervision of students in the clinic or the community. All faculty will participate in the fieldwork process and may do site visits. Travel may be required for this position.

Students will not be admitted into this program until 2019-2020 academic year so this is a rare opportunity for a forward thinking individual to have dedicated time to collaborate with a core group of incoming faculty to create an OTD program grounded in occupation and innovation, to build or further a scholarship agenda, and engage in faculty practice.

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution (must be conferred by date of employment)
  • Licensed/eligible for Arkansas OT license
  • At least three years of clinical experience
  • Experience teaching at the graduate level
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Evidence of scholarly activity

Preferred Qualifications

  • More than five years of clinical experience
  • Experience as a full-time faculty with teaching responsibility
  • Evidence of scholarly publications/presentations
  • Previous applications for grant funding
