Basic Function:

Kent State University invites applications for a nine-month, full time Non-tenure track Lead Culinary/Food service Management Instructor in Hospitality Management beginning Fall semester 2018.

Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:

Responsibilities include: (a) developing and providing high quality instruction of culinary and food management courses with an emphasis on food quality and management considerations within a hospitality management program; (b) overseeing culinary labs by ordering food within an established budget, controlling inventory of food and equipment, arranging equipment maintenance, managing sanitation and safety, and serving as liaison with University Dining Services and the campus’s food service contractor; (c) engaging in continuous professional development; (d) advising students and providing service to the campus, community, and industry through activities such as recruitment, career fair, guest lectures; or student group advisement (e) developing and strengthening industry ties; and (f) supporting on-going program, College, School and University growth and development. Examples of courses taught may include: Sanitation and Safety Principles and Practices; Techniques of Food Production; Baking and Pastry Fundamentals; International Cuisine; Food, Wine, & Beverage Pairing; and Catering & Banquet Management.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Master’s degree in Hospitality Management or related area from an accredited university with at least one degree in food service management or culinary arts is preferred. At least five years of significant food service industry professional work is necessary that includes budgeting, P&L responsibility, supervising back of house staff, purchasing, and inventory control. ACF Member, ServSafe® Instructor and Proctor Level II. Significant teaching experience at the university level and TIPS® certification is desirable.

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:

Light work-Exerting up to 40 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects. Incumbent must be able to communicate with others. Incumbent may be required to travel from building to building frequently and off campus occasionally.
