The Film and New Media Program at NYU Abu Dhabi is currently inviting applications for a full-time non-tenure track, open-rank multi-year position in narrative filmmaking, to begin Fall 2018. We are looking for an established filmmaker with experience teaching narrative filmmaking from beginning to advanced levels. Demonstrated professional and teaching ability in screenwriting, documentary, television, and critical studies, will be advantageous. Along with candidates who have practice-based experience, we are also interested in practitioners who may also have publications in film/television/media history and critical and gender studies. Written and oral fluency in English is required. Experience developing original course material is required. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills to collaborate with colleagues and students in a multicultural education setting. The successful candidate will teach in the Film and New Media Program, implementing pedagogical practices that reflect dynamic class room experiences as well as advising students and participating fully in university and program service. The Film and New Media Program at NYUAD integrates the making of film and new media with the study of their histories, conventions, and practices. Students take both practice and studies courses, and finish their degree with a Capstone project that reflects the historical and cultural contexts of their interests and studies. Students and faculty work in state-of-the-art facilities and have access to a wide-range of filmmaking equipment and experiences. The program introduces and links students to some of the largest and oldest film industries from around the world and serves as a vibrant training ground for makers, curators and students of film and new media. Emphasis is placed on innovative and evidence based teaching that empowers students to think globally.
Candidates for this position should hold an MFA or equivalent degree, or Ph.D, and/or have extensive professional experience, as well as significant experience teaching in internationally recognized film and new media programs and/or liberal arts universities.
