Job description

The University of Hull is on a journey, one that is led by our commitment to delivering excellent research and a fantastic student experience. Over the last few years the higher education landscape has altered dramatically, and it is imperative as a University that we do not stand still. We are committed to evolving our approach to ensure that we meet the needs of our students, regional, national and global collaborators and partners, both now and in the future.

Part of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, the School of Mathematics and Physical Sciences has been making breakthroughs in research for many years – we developed the now ubiquitous liquid crystal displays used around the globe in devices from smartphones to laptops. That achievement set the standard that we continue to aspire to. Our links with world-leading companies – including Microsoft, Sony and RB – enhance our teaching as well as our research. Mathematics and Physical Sciences is a dynamic and expanding research-active school where interdisciplinary teamwork thrives. From the infinitesimal to the galactic, our research is increasing humanity’s understanding of the world and universe around us.

With a keen focus on performance and pursuing excellence in all that we do, we are looking for a new Head of School to provide strong and ambitious leadership to help continue our growth and build on our interdependent academic offer. This is a high-profile leadership appointment that requires both academic credibility and the ability to provide leadership and vision in promoting excellence in learning and teaching as well as research and enterprise, creating an environment in which these can flourish.

This is a time of great opportunity for the University of Hull. If you are keen to pursue a stimulating, challenging and professionally fulfilling career, we want to hear from you.
