The University of Memphis invites applications for two Instructor positions within the Department of English. Positions begin August 2019 and are non-tenure track, one-year appointments with the possibility of annual renewal. Instructors typically teach four courses (12 credit hours) per semester.
The primary assignment for one of the Instructor positions will include teaching online first-year composition and lower-division literature. The Instructor will be expected to teach on campus as well. Special consideration will be given to candidates with online teaching experience.
The primary assignment for the second Instructor position will include teaching upper-division Engineering Communication, technical and professional writing, and first-year composition.

– MA or PhD in English, Rhetoric and Composition, or Technical Communication
– Demonstrated experience in effectively teaching a variety of upper-level and lower-division writing courses
– Readiness to fulfill department-directed course objectives and outcomes
Minimum Position Qualifications
MA, MFA, or PhD in English;
Demonstrated experience in effectively teaching first-year composition and lower division literature courses;
Evidence of teaching excellence (e.g. student evaluations, sample syllabi, class observation reports, statement of teaching philosophy, etc.);
Ability to follow departmentally prescribed course objectives / outcomes with flexibility in courses, locations, and teaching times as needed by the department;
Willingness to perform departmental service.
