Smead Aerospace Engineering Sciences (AES) at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a full-time instructor to support CubeSat and UAS Projects. The instructor will be a member of the AES faculty and will participate in course development and assessment, faculty governance, and university service. This position will be long-term with contracts renewable every 2-3 years. A competitive salary will be based on qualifications and experience.
This instructor will support ongoing CubeSat and UAS student projects. This individual will lead proposal efforts for educational funding for these projects; recruit and advise student teams to pursue national and international satellite/UAS design competitions; support research proposals led by other faculty PIs that rely on small satellites and UASs, work with the project course coordinators, and serve on the senior projects advisory board and as the primary advisor for 1-2 graduate project sections. The candidate must have knowledge in areas relevant to CubeSats and UASs such as electronics, embedded systems, software development and the fundamentals of systems engineering. Experience in RF systems (antennas and communications), attitude dynamics, flight control, heat transfer, and mechanics is also highly desired. Understanding of version control, agile software development tools and engineering design tools such as Altium, SolidWorks, FEKO, HFSS, and Thermal Desktop is required. A basic understanding and appreciation for aerospace engineering fundamentals, as well as excellent management, communication and organizational skills, along with a willingness to learn quickly, is required.
This is a 9-month academic year position and candidates are encouraged to participate in ongoing research projects related to CubeSats and UASs during the summer months.

Candidates are sought who have a MS or PhD in engineering, computer science or physics with a software or embedded systems background and an interest or prior experience in unmanned aerospace systems (small satellites or UAS). Applicants must possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills along with the ability to teach and work in a highly collaborative environment. Experience in teaching hands-on, design-based courses, systems engineering or developing software in an industry environment is highly desirable.
