Instructor (Regular Non-Tenure Track)
Interior Design
Department of Human Environmental Studies
College of Health and Human Services

Primary Responsibilities
Candidate will teach courses, assist with curriculum development and accreditation processes, and advise undergraduate students in interior design. In addition, the candidate will assist with student recruitment, engage in university and community service activities, serve on departmental/college/university committees, participate in professional organizations and network with representatives from the interior design industry and business community.

Required Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in interior design, architecture, human environmental studies, or related field (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/ government certified university)
  • NCIDQ certification or eligibility to take the exam
  • Demonstrated relevant industry and/or teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively with diverse internal and external constituencies
  • Knowledge of computer aided drafting and illustration programs
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in teaching, scholarship and service consistent with the teacher-scholar model
  • Evidence of involvement in professional organizations
  • Demonstrated strong English communication skills
  • Evidence of a customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities

Department and Program Information: The Department of Human Environmental Studies has 21 full-time faculty, 5 part time faculty, over 400 undergraduate and approximately 40 graduate students. The department offers a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Human Environmental Studies (with options in Child Development, Dietetics, Family Studies, Fashion Merchandising, and Interior Design). The Interior Design Program received accreditation from the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA) in 2013 and from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) in 2017.
