Job Description

This position is responsible for teaching five undergraduate classes in Criminal Justice in the Department of Justice Studies. Areas of specialization are open, but preference will be given to applicants with expertise in the following areas: criminology; corrections; courts & the judicial process; criminal justice ethics; or forensics.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop syllabi that clearly outline the course requirements, rationale, goals, and objectives.
  • Prepare class sessions and assignments to help students grasp course content and how it integrates with overall student learning outcomes for the course.
  • Teach courses according to the catalog descriptions and in accordance with defined course standards and outcomes.
  • Create a learning environment that encourages student involvement and participation.
  • Provide a minimum of 45 hours of instructional hours for each 3 unit class (classes cancelled for illness or any other reason must be made up).
  • Maintain other presence in campus equal to 35-40 hours per week for full time faculty.
  • Document students’ attendance, participation, and academic progress by giving and grading assignments, projects, quizzes and/or examinations that lead to a final grade.
  • Submit course grades to the Registrar by the assigned date.
  • Is accessible to students outside the classroom, providing ample periods of time for counseling and mentoring students in matters related to academic success and, life goals.
  • Maintain posted office hours and when possible participates in other school related activities.
  • When called upon, functions as an official academic advisor, counseling students about courses, academic sequence, and program selections.
  • Perform other responsibilities requested by supervisor.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Masters in Criminology
  • Masters in Criminal Justice

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications.
  • Admissions functions of higher education.
  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • When called upon, functions as an official academic advisor, counseling students about courses, academic sequence, and program selections.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two (2) years of higher education experience
  • Two (2) years of related work experience
