Job Summary

This is a position that runs through May 5th, 2018 (2017-2018 academic year), needing to fill as soon as possible.

Description of Job Duties

Nursing Faculty job description:

Major responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop caring and active learning environment
  • Plan course content and curriculum and assessment, ensuring currency of content and that each course contains essential curricular components
  • Maintain expertise in field of practice, teaching, and participate in professional organizations, including the use of online technology for those teaching in hybrid or online courses
  • Support student activities, including course and career guidance, mentoring, advisement (including posting office hours), enrollment, and referrals to campus resources as needed
  • evaluate and recommend textbooks, other instructional material, technology, and lab materials to the course coordinator, Associate Dean, and Library
  • teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and keep students informed and updated concerning course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, attendance requirements, and progress (via prompt grading)
  • maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records
  • file an appropriate course syllabus for each course taught with the Associate Dean, Dean, and Provost’s office
  • coordinate and be responsible for skills lab, simulation lab, classroom, and clinical learning experiences to which you are assigned
  • use students’ learning styles in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations and incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery
  • to strive for the qualities delineated in the criteria for faculty evaluation used by the university and to follow university policy and procedure
  • to conduct both formative and summative assessment, including class examinations, quizzes, evaluations, and other evaluations as directed at SWOSU
  • to participate in curriculum and program review and make suggestions to the Associate Dean concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives and mission of SWOSU and the program Student Learning Outcomes and Program Outcomes.
  • ensure coursed delivered via hybrid or online learning format mirror the quality, rigor, and effectiveness of courses offered in a traditional format; and to ensure the privacy and personal information of SWOSU students enrolled in distance learning courses is protected in the same manner as those enrolled in traditionally delivered courses.
  • Clinical and laboratory supervision: Integrate theory with planned clinical performance; supervision and mentoring of adjunct faculty members; orientation of students to the clinical site and communication of clinical objectives to the student and the staff; Assign, guide, supervise, and evaluate student’s performance in giving care to selected patients and performing skills; Write anecdotal progress notes and clinical evaluations of student performance; Ability to travel to and from clinical sites
  • Participate in departmental and university-level committees as assigned
  • Ensures compliance with regulatory boards including licensure and accreditation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the course coordinator, Associate Dean, Dean, Provost, President, or President designee

Knowledge, skills, attitudes:

  • Demonstrated the ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in computers and related technology(Word, Outlook, PowerPoint & online learning management systems).
  • Ability to multitask
  • Experience presenting information to small and large groups
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to work with those from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Ability to communicate both orally, in writing, and with auditory and visual skills
  • exhibit emotional control, stress management, and stability
  • ascend and descend steps; lift materials weighing up to 50 lbs, sit or stand for extended periods of time; bend, kneel, and reach
  • possess basic mathematical skills such as percentages and fractions, etc.

Education and experience:

  • Master’s degree in nursing required, Doctorate preferred within 7 years of hire.
  • Minimum of five years’ clinical practice required
  • Unencumbered Oklahoma Nursing license
