Grand View University in Des Moines, Iowa, is the home of the Jacobson Institute for Innovation in Education. The Jacobson Institute provides current and future educators access to innovative resources and strategies and promotes interactions among educators and transformational thought leaders. The Jacobson Institute’s current focus is on improving educational effectiveness in mathematics education through multiple programs, including hosting visionary thought leaders as visiting scholars, conducting research, evaluating programs, and collaborating with many educational partners to support the implementation of effective models and methods in mathematics education. Grand View University seeks an exceptional and innovative educator to serve as the Director of the Jacobson Institute for Innovation in Education and to hold the Jacobson Distinguished Professor Chair. The successful candidate will have the creativity, leadership and interpersonal skills, energy, and drive to further the Institute’s mission and to distinguish Grand View University as a leader in mathematics education. Both the chair and the Institute’s program operations are supported by an endowment from the Mr. Richard O. Jacobson Foundation.
The Jacobson Distinguished Professor will be responsible for identifying innovative theories and practices in mathematics education, coordinating the visiting scholars program, teaching at the undergraduate or graduate level (with flexible teaching load requirements), and working with K-12 and post-secondary educators in the local region, across Iowa and around the nation to implement evidence-based strategies for innovation and models that show the greatest potential for transforming teaching and learning.
QUALIFICATIONS – Candidates should have an earned doctorate and at least five years of teaching, advising, scholarship/research, and service in higher education. Candidates should be well-recognized through their professional activities, leadership positions, practice innovations, publications, grants, and awards. The successful candidate will be able to create, foster, and lead coalitions and opportunities for mathematics education on the campus and beyond. Experience should reflect the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people and success in grant development.
The successful candidate will join the University with the rank of associate professor or professor. Academic qualifications should qualify candidate for tenure consideration at the rank of associate or full professor in an academic department in the College of Social and Natural Sciences or the College of Humanities and Education. The anticipated start date is summer or fall of 2019.
