The position is a full-time, 9-month, tenure-track faculty position for fall and spring semesters, with the possibility of summer school and online teaching. Classes and other responsibilities are conducted primarily weekdays, but will include some evening classes, independent studies, as well as some online responsibilities. Attendance will also be required at some evening and weekend events.
Responsibilities include classroom and laboratory-based teaching and research in the Materials Joining Engineering and Engineering Technology concentrations, advising students, and serving on various university committees. Teaching duties include undergraduate and graduate teaching in Joining Processes, Welding Engineering Design, Welding and Physical Metallurgy, and Material Thermodynamics and Kinetics. Teaching responsibilities may include both on-site and on-line delivery methods.
The Kielhorn Endowed Professorship was created through the generous contribution of LeTourneau University Welding Engineering alumni and the American Welding Society to honor the memory of distinguished LETU professor Mr. William “Bill” Kielhorn. Professor Kielhorn first joined LeTourneau University as a student, graduating in 1959. Seven years later, in 1966, he returned to LeTourneau as a faculty member. For 45 years, Kielhorn diligently educated succeeding generations of welding engineers and welding engineering technologists at LeTourneau University, retiring in May 2011. Despite being hospitalized for stage IV colon cancer during his last semester, Kielhorn never missed a class in his entire 45-year career. The Kielhorn Professorship supports the growth of the welding engineering faculty at LeTourneau University and furthers our mission of training up future generations of welding engineers and welding engineering technologists.

Applicants must have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate engineering education including laboratory instruction. Desired areas of expertise include welding process development, welding metallurgy, failure analysis, corrosion engineering, and materials characterization. Of special interest are candidates with the ability to teach weld design, welding metallurgy, failure analysis, materials thermodynamics and kinetics, and joining processes in a classroom and laboratory setting. Candidates must hold a B.S. degree in Materials, Welding, or Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited institution and a PhD in Welding, Metallurgical, or Materials Engineering. Industrial experience is highly desirable. Successful candidates will demonstrate evidence of outstanding potential in undergraduate teaching, as well as the ability to supervise research teams, advise Master’s students, and secure outside research funding.
