Under general supervision, prepares microscopic tissue slides for diagnostic/research purposes; performs tissue stains to assist in diagnosis; handles specimen accessioning; maintains laboratory and equipment; provides instruction.

Bachelor’s degree; supplemented with three to five (3-5) years of experience as a Histotechnician or Histotechnologist and HTL(ASCP) Histotechnologist certification.
Prepares microscopic slides on human/animal tissue for research/diagnostic purposes, including fixation, dehydration, infiltration, embedding, microtomy, and mounting to include both paraffin processed tissue and frozen sectioning; optimizes and validates composition of procedures for new stains and processes.
Performs histochemical and immunohistochemical stains on a variety of paraffin embedded tissues to assist in diagnosis.
Processes specimen accessioning to include all manual and computerized data entry.
Prepares and maintains all necessary reagents, including stains, alcohols, and paraffins according to proper specifications.
Maintains laboratory, equipment, and accurate records of quality assurance and control; assists with teaching and implementation of new procedures; maintains inventory and ordering for laboratory supplies.
Troubleshoots equipment and lab processes for improvement; arranges service for instrument malfunction; documents and reports findings according to lab policy; monitors test performance and ensures that remedial actions are taken when test systems deviate from laboratory specifications.
Acts as a resource person to the staff; assists with the resolution of technical problems in accordance with policies and procedures established by the laboratory director or technical supervisor; provides orientation of testing personnel.
