Job description

Frostburg State University, Department of Geography, seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure-track contractual Lecturer position to begin Fall 2017. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Department of Geography at FSU administers undergraduate degree programs in Geography, Earth Science, and Environmental Analysis and Planning. Resources include two computer-based teaching labs, environmental science lab, soils analytical lab, geomorphology/paleo teaching lab, sediment and rock prep lab, physical geography teaching lab, and a map library. The Department has an extensive collection of field equipment including GPS receivers, data collectors, and total stations. The Gira Center for Communications and Information Technology provides teaching and research opportunities. FSU is committed to be a sustainable campus. Responsibilities: Commitment to undergraduate teaching in urban geography and sustainability. Teach new and/or existing courses in area of expertise including urban geography and sustainability. Ability to teach urban and regional planning is a plus. Offer an introductory level general education course in human and/or world regional geography. A creative approach to classroom instruction including experiential learning and online instruction is important. Faculty members at FSU are expected to actively participate in the University’s student-learning-assessment program. Duties also may include student advising, professional development activities, and service to the Department, College, University, and community.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Geography, Urban Planning, or closely related field. Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and research.

Preferred Qualifications: Ph.D. in Geography, Urban Planning, or closely related field. Demonstrated teaching excellence in courses related to urban geography.
