The School of Music at Middle Tennessee State University invites applicants for our Voice faculty position. This is a one year, full-time temporary (non-tenurable), position (#131180) at the rank of Lecturer, with possible renewal up to three years total. Position begins August 1, 2018.
Primary responsibility includes: Teach the Opera Theater; teach applied voice to music majors and minors, and oversee weekly studio master class; teach class voice, diction, and/or related subjects; and perform with faculty colleagues and visiting artists.
Housed in the College of Liberal Arts, the MTSU School of Music serves 400 undergraduate and graduate music majors and minors in Bachelor of Music and Master of Music degrees and specialized minors. MTSU was the first in Tennessee to become an “All-Steinway” institution and is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Curricular specializations include composition, conducting, jazz studies, music education, music history, music industry, music theory, and performance. The School provides myriad performing opportunities including five wind bands, three orchestras, three choral ensembles, opera theater, vocal jazz ensemble, big bands, jazz combos, chamber music and percussion ensembles, steel drum ensembles, salsa band and commercial music ensembles. Master of Music in performance required.
Successful candidates may receive special consideraton for the following: Tenor, baritone or bass voice; teaching courses in music literature at the undergraduate level; Doctor of Musical Arts or Doctor of Music, including ABD; extensive performance and teaching experience in all facets of vocal studies.
