Postdoctoral Fellow in Toxicity Testing in Alternative Model Organisms,

Bloomington, Indiana, United States

Job description

Appointment Status: Non-Tenure Track

Department: IU Bloomington Intelligent Systems Engineering

Position Summary
A postdoctoral fellow position in “Toxicity Testing in Alternative Model Organisms” at Indiana University Bloomington is available in a new collaborative project to identify mechanisms of toxicity over phyla. Participating schools are the School of Informatics, Computing, & Engineering, School of Public and Environmental Affairs, College of Arts and Sciences, and School of Public Health. The appointment starts September 1 (or sooner), for one year and is renewable for another year, subject to funding and performance.

Toxicity testing of a selected number of compounds will be performed in vitro and in vivo in alternative testing models (Danio rerio, Drosophila, Daphnia, C elegans, Xenopus). Exposures (dose-response and time-course) will be followed by molecular analyses (transcriptomics and metabolomics) of toxicity pathways shared between and unique to different species. Follow-up experiments to validate specific toxicity pathways will be performed. We are seeking applicants who are highly motivated, enthusiastic and creative. The project involves working with several PIs (Joseph Shaw, James Klaunig and Maria Bondesson) and laboratories and, thus, collaborative skills and results-oriented project management are required. The position is localized at Indiana University Bloomington but will include specialized training and research with partners at NIH and the University of Louisville.

Basic Qualifications
The candidate is expected to have a Ph.D. degree in Toxicology or Molecular Biology or a related field. It is preferred that the candidate had previous experience of in vitro or alternative models testing, high-throughput screening, or -omics methodology. The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic scientist, a good team-worker and be proficient in English.
