Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Department of Language and Literature at Fairmont State University invites applications for a three-year, renewable, temporary assistant professor in English. Primary responsibility will be to teach a 4/4 load. The position requires a generalist with competence as a Medievalist. Preference will be given to candidates with additional competence in Renaissance Literature. Teaching load will include first-year composition and a sophomore literature class. Upper-level classes include Chaucer and the literature of the Middle Ages.

Minimum Required Education:
Earned PhD in English Literature. Specializations in Medieval and Renaissance literature preferred.

Required Licenses and/or Certifications:
None

Type and Amount of Experience Needed:
Experience teaching composition in an accelerated learning program (developmental English) preferred.

Preferred Qualifications
The position requires a generalist with competence as a Medievalist. Preference will be given to candidates with additional competence in Renaissance Literature.

Special Conditions
This is a full-time position, renewable annually for up to three years. This position is outside tenure-track status but may convert to a tenure-track position in the future. If converted, then prior years of service may count for tenure and promotion.
