Vinson Professor of Economics

Buckingham, England, United Kingdom

Job description

The University of Buckingham is the UK’s only independent University with a Royal Charter. Having led the National Student Survey rankings for the last 10 years, Buckingham continues to place great emphasis on the welfare and development of its 2,000 or so students. It has been selected as the Times/Sunday Times University of the Year for Teaching Quality 2016.

The University is seeking a Professor of Economics to provide dynamism in the development and promotion of the degree programmes, academic outreach and scholarly profile of Economics at Buckingham. Applications are encouraged from a wide range of backgrounds, including academia, the policy world and the City of London. An entrepreneurial attitude to marketing and recruitment is particularly valued, as these will be central to the role. A record of research and publication consistent with appointment to a professorship is required, but research is broadly defined to encompass policy-oriented outputs.

Buckingham is unique. It is the only independent university in the UK with a Royal Charter, and probably the smallest with around 1000 students. Honours degrees are achieved in two intensive years of study. We keep class sizes small, with a student:academic staff ratio of 8.9:1 and the Oxbridge style tutorial groups are often personalised and always exhilarating.
