Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of English to begin September 1, 2018.

Required Qualifications: We seek candidates who have an earned doctorate in English (or a related field), but will consider candidates who have achieved ABD status. The successful candidate will have prior experience in teaching global literatures in English, world literature, Africana literatures in English, or postcolonial literatures and theory courses at the undergraduate level. Candidates must have demonstrated effectiveness in teaching. A commitment to undergraduate teaching and advising is essential.

Preferred Qualifications: We prefer candidates who have experience teaching introductory and advanced courses in literature, general education courses, and film. The ability to create inclusive learning environments for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.

Major/Essential Functions: The teaching assignment will be five courses (5/7 appointment), two courses per semester and a one-month January Term experiential course determined by candidate and appropriate to their expertise. Primary teaching responsibilities will include World Literatures (ENG-130), Post-Colonial Literatures (ENG-281), and contributions to general education.
