Job Summary:
About the Position:

The College of Communications' mission is to prepare communicators to advance a democratic society by undertaking critical academic inquiry, serving the community, and engaging in ethical and professional practice across all communications industries and in related fields. A democratic society in which people from all backgrounds use communication ethically and effectively to participate fully in civic discourse, building community, and enhancing social capital. The School of Communications was formed in 1988 and became a College in 1999. The College includes four departments: a Department of Communications, a Department of Human Communication Studies, a Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, and a Department of Cinema and Television Arts. The Associate Dean is responsible for supporting student, faculty, and staff success in the College of Communications. The Associate Dean is a key member of the Dean's team, plays an important leadership role in the College, represents the College in the absence of the Dean, and works with the Dean and departments in advancing the vision and mission of the College. Specifically, the Associate Dean works under the leadership of the Dean focusing on matters of faculty affairs, enrollment management, personnel, budget and finance, operations, student advising, and other administrative matters as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned terminal degree with tenured faculty member at the rank of associate professor or above in a discipline within, or related to, the College with demonstrated excellence in teaching, research, and service.

For non-CSUF candidates, qualifications commensurate for a tenured faculty appointment in one of the departments within the College according to university and department personnel standards in teaching, research and service and in addition:

Evidence of successful performance of leadership in a higher education institution.

Strong leadership and management skills including demonstrated ability to lead teams and committees with collaborative leadership style in a shared governance framework.

Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice.

Strong interpersonal skills and empathetic leadership skills.

Demonstrated skills using quantitative, qualitative, and logistical reasoning to address issues and solve problems related to required duties.

Knowledge of, or ability to quickly learn, University and California State University system-level policies and procedures.

Experience working in a unionized environment and knowledge of relevant Collective Bargaining Agreements.

Computer skills and knowledge of software applications appropriate for managing budgets, enrollments, class schedules, and space planning.

The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting act and is required to comply with the requirement set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083, revised July 21, 2017.

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) position under the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act. CSAs are responsible for reporting allegations of Clery Act Crimes reported to them or that they witness. CSA training is required.

Multiple positions may be hired from this recruitment based on the strength of the applicant pool.
