Scheduled hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm, weekend and evening hours as needed. The selected candidate must be willing to adjust workdays/hours based on the department's needs.

Major responsibilities include the following:
  • Coordinate and supervise office operations, and recommend procedures, related to veterans educational benefits and services, the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and other student services areas.
  • Serve in a leadership capacity in the development of the Veterans Resource Center (VRC).
  • Serve as a liaison to the leadership and staff at the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar Learning Center in support of our educational partnership.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and assign office staff; participate in the hiring and disciplinary recommendations of staff.
  • Ensure department compliance with district policies and procedures and laws governing veterans education benefits and services, and collaborate with other student services areas in its implementation.
  • Assist students and staff in resolving issues and complaints involving veterans educational benefits and services, the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and other student services areas.
  • Maintain student records, in compliance with San Diego Community College District and Department of Veterans Affairs policies and procedures.
  • Provide information to students and staff regarding veterans records, educational benefits and services, the Veterans Resource Center (VRC), and other student services; respond to more complex questions as referred by assigned staff; coordinate and perform veterans services activities with other college departments.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain strategic plan for the college VA services, in alignment with institutional initiatives.
  • Work collaboratively and assist with coordinating procedures and activities with Instructional Services and Administrative Services.
  • Work collaboratively and assist with coordinating procedures and activities with offices such as Admissions & Records, Administrative Services, Accounting, Financial Aid, Counseling, and other student services programs.
  • Work collaboratively with the Department of Veterans Affairs; ensure timely enrollment reporting and annual catalog approval.
  • Assist in planning and monitoring budget expenditures for veteran services program areas.
  • Serve on special committees and perform special projects as assigned.
  • Prepare and maintain reports and statistics as required.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the district student veteran policies and procedures, and records processing calendar.
  • Facilitate Guided Pathways in developing support programs and services.
  • Implement Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) and Academic and Career Pathways (ACP's) initiatives related to the veterans services and other student services functions.
  • Interpret and apply the rules, regulations, and policies governing veterans records, veterans educational benefits and services, and other assigned functions.
  • Plan and organize work to meet timelines; work independently with little direction.
  • Operate computers and business-related software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and schedule office staff.

Education, Training and Experience:
  • Any combination of training and experience equivalent to: a high school diploma with at least five years of responsible clerical experience, including at least three years in a student services office.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • Experience with veterans educational benefits and services, enrollment certification, catalog approval, and awareness of trends in Department of Veterans Affairs policies is preferred.
  • Experience with staff supervision, leadership and/or project management, leading a new program or initiative is preferred.
  • Experience with developing a Veterans Resource Center (VRC) is preferred.
  • Experience with Guided Pathways in developing support services is preferred.
