Tenure Status: Non-Tenure Track

Payroll Status: Faculty 12

Job DescriptionThe University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Department of Biostatistics invites applications for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor (12-month appointment with rank commensurate with qualifications).

We are seeking applications for a dynamic teacher to join our Department. The UAB School of Public Health has recently been approved to offer a new DrPH concentration in Biostatistics, one of only a handful of CEPH-accredited programs to offer this specialized degree. In addition, the School’s undergraduate Public Health and MPH/MSPH programs are rapidly evolving, requiring innovative instruction to meet the needs of our diverse student body.

Required QualificationsWe are seeking applications from individuals holding a PhD or DrPH in Biostatistics or a closely-related field. Applicants with doctoral degrees in other health-related fields who possess graduate training in statistical analysis will also be considered. Previous experience teaching introductory or intermediate-level courses in Biostatistics is required for this position. Experience teaching online courses, undergraduate students, or students not specializing in Biostatistics is strongly preferred. We are especially interested in applicants who can contribute to the growth of our new DrPH concentration, including those with experience working in multidisciplinary teams or in community settings. In addition to teaching experience, the ideal applicant will have an active research agenda clearly linked to public health or experience in community-based public health practice. It is expected that the successful candidate will cover a portion of their salary through participation in funded research collaborations or public health practice and will engage in service activities to the Department and School, including advising students’ practicum experiences and serving on thesis/dissertation committees.

This is a non-tenure earning, full-time (12-month) position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Initial rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The expected teaching load is 4-5 courses per year (including summer). Potential course assignments include Introduction to Biostatistics at the undergraduate and MPH level, Intermediate Biostatistics at the MPH/MSPH level, and a doctoral seminar in evidence-based public health research. Other courses may be assigned based on the candidate’s interests or in response to programmatic needs.
