Job Description

The Department of Music at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Music specializing in voice and musical theatre. This is a joint appointment with the Department of Theatre and Dance. Appointment begins August 2025.

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi is an accredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Music and the National Association of Schools of Theatre. The Departments of Music and Theatre & Dance are highly active units in the School of Arts, Media, & Communication. Construction of a new music/theatre/dance/arts building began in May of 2024 and completion is expected in Fall of 2026.

Responsibilities:

  • Primary responsibilities are teaching applied voice for both music majors and non-majors and leading musical theatre coaching and musical direction.
  • Secondary responsibilities may include teaching music-focused courses in musical theatre or other related classes depending upon the candidate’s strengths and departmental needs.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to work within a team-oriented departmental culture, and to undertake other duties according to the needs of the department.

Qualifications:

  • A completed MFA in musical theatre or DMA in vocal performance and/or vocal pedagogy by the time of appointment is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach applied voice, lead musical theatre coaching, and music direction is required.
  • Evidence of ability to be a successful teacher, scholar, performer, and congenial colleague is required.
  • Piano proficiency, demonstrated success in recruiting and retaining students, and experience with interdisciplinary collaboration are highly desirable.
