Summary of Job Duties:
This position will be responsible for field education of growers, county agents, consultants and industry personnel in the best management practices regarding peanuts and associated crops in the growing rotation system that features peanuts and cotton primarily. It will also be responsible for mentorship of new and mid-career county agents, to help strengthen local ANR program excellence and impact. Mentorship topics could include real time topical advice, training on demonstrations and reporting, peer to peer training events, effective stakeholder communications, how to do meetings, problem solving and diagnosis in the field, and how to communicate with county officials and other leaders. This position reports directly to the Associate Director, ANR and the Director of the Extension Service on stakeholder feedback.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
A Master’s degree in a related field of study is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Extensive experience in the Arkansas Delta in row crop agriculture is highly preferred.
Current knowledge of research-based BMPS for multiple crops in the Delta is preferred.
Documented experience in leadership with experience dealing with industry leaders, government leaders, consultants, and county agents highly preferred.
Demonstrated excellence in field programs, research-based advisory, demonstrations and reporting.
Documented ability to work with and lead diverse teams working in applied field demonstrations and extension education.
Documented knowledge of cotton/peanut and related systems on soils and conditions typical of the Arkansas Delta.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to obtain & interpret research information. Ability to anticipate changing trends in assigned discipline area & develop programs to address those changes. Knowledge of the principles & techniques of adult education. Knowledge of the program planning process. Ability to work effectively with a variety of professional & lay audiences. Ability to communicate & convey ideas effectively to faculty, stakeholder groups, & clientele. Knowledge of social, economic, political & cultural factors affecting adult & youth learning. Physical & mental ability to effectively perform the duties & responsibilities of the job, including long & irregular hours of work & frequent in-state & out-of-state travel.
