The standard teaching load is 12 credit hours per semester and there are opportunities to teach in the department’s evening and on-line undergraduate and graduate programs. Faculty responsibilities include advising students, service to the University, College of Education, Health, and Human Services, the department, and the community, and an active research agenda.

General Statement of Duties: 

Instructor/Assistant Professor, Classroom Management and Social Emotional Learning

The Education Department is seeking an outstanding and engaged teacher/scholar for a temporary one-year position at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level effective September 2019.

The successful candidate will teach courses at the undergraduate level, collaborate with local schools, advise undergraduates, and participate actively in the University community. The candidate will be expected to participate in the department-wide anti-racism education project that seeks to promote the development and expansion of faculty and students’ ideologies, knowledge and understandings in applying critical theories and informed practices.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earned Master’s degree
  • Minimum of 3 years teaching experience in PreK-12 settings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate degree in relevant field
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education
  • Experience mentoring teacher candidates in pre-practicum or practicum settings
  • Teaching experience in PreK-6 settings in urban schools and communities
  • Evidence of effective use of learner-centered pedagogies and culturally relevant/sustaining practices
  • Multilingual

Salary:
Specific salary for current Westfield State University employees and individuals currently working for the state of Massachusetts must be calculated individually in accordance with collective bargaining and state policies and procedures.
