This position is designed as a Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Instructor for a grant focused on developing, researching, and providing MBSR teacher training to people who serve historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the mindfulness field. Research is being done on: (1) ideal content of the program, and (2) feasibility, acceptability, and impact of the teacher-training program. This MBSR instructor will co-develop and co-lead the MBSR teacher-training program. The candidate must be able to teach live online programs, sometimes including weekends. There is a possibility the position will require travel within the United States to teach occasional in-person three-day retreats.

Education and Experience:

• Masters or doctorate degree, or the equivalent in education, public health, mental health, nursing, or related field; or the equivalent work experience.
• Certified MBSR teacher and teacher trainer by an organization with curriculum consistent with that provided at Brown University, such as the Mindfulness Center at Brown, the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Healthcare, and Society at UMASS Medical School, the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University, or the Global Mindfulness Collaborative.
• A minimum of three to five years teaching MBSR and/or other MBPs; preferred experience of five to seven years of teaching MBSR and/or other MBPs.
• Demonstrated experience with diverse communities, including underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the mindfulness field.
• 5+ years’ experience with specific training and practice in mindfulness meditation, including experience with at least three (3) extended, intensive meditation training retreats; 3 years of experience teaching Hatha yoga or equivalent; 3 years’ experience teaching stress reduction in groups or direct experience as an MBSR teacher trainer (including as an apprentice), demonstrating quantitatively- and qualitatively-assessed competencies (e.g., via Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Teaching Assessment Criteria (MBI:TAC)).

Job Competencies:

• Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver the MBSR curricula for historically under-represented racial and ethnic groups in the mindfulness field.
• Highly skilled in all competencies to instruct and train others in MBSR, including for historically under-represented racial and ethnic groups in the mindfulness field.
• Consistent personal practice of mindfulness meditation (7 years minimum).
• Demonstrated integrity and commitment to preserve sensitive information shared by participants as private and confidential.
• Excellent oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people, including those from historically underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
• Physical ability to demonstrate yoga postures and movements with or without a reasonable accommodation.
• Possess a willingness and ability to support and promote a diverse and inclusive campus community

This is a fixed term, part-time, hourly position with a current end date of 12/31/2026, which may be extended based upon available funding.
