The successful candidate will embrace the opportunity to work closely with students. Courses may include elementary and secondary writing pedagogy, grammar methods, educational linguistics, literacy instruction, English methods, supervision of field placements, and first-year composition. Preference will be given to candidates with expertise in culturally relevant and sustaining pedagogy and anti-racist educational practices. The department expects candidates to have an active scholarly agenda in English Education and provides support for these activities. Scholars who focus on issues of equity and inclusivity in their work will receive prioritized consideration. There are opportunities for curriculum and course development both within the University’s Civitae Core Curriculum and the newly designed interdisciplinary Ethnic Studies minor. The normal teaching load is four courses per semester with a class size of no more than 25 students.
Longwood University seeks candidates for a visiting assistant professor in English Education, to begin August 2023. Applicants should possess an earned doctorate in English education or a related field (PhD or EdD; ABD will be considered but degree must be complete by start date), experience teaching English in middle and/or secondary schools, and a current teaching license in 6-12 English or a related field that conveys eligibility for Virginia licensure. Applicants should demonstrate collaboration skills, the ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning, knowledge of current best practices of English education, evidence of scholarly activity or scholarly potential, and a commitment to undergraduate teaching.
