Missouri Valley College invites applications for a full-time Vice President for Student Life and Athletics. This senior leader serves on the President’s Cabinet and provides strategic vision, leadership, and oversight for intercollegiate athletics and student affairs.
The Vice President is responsible for advancing a holistic student experience that supports academic success, student engagement, leadership development, wellness, and competitive athletic excellence—while intentionally cultivating adaptable life skills that prepare students for career success. This role provides integrated leadership across Athletics and Student Affairs, ensuring both areas are aligned with institutional priorities, including the strategic plan and enrollment goals. As a key advisor to the President, the Vice President plays a central role in shaping campus culture and enhancing the student experience, with a strong focus on retention, persistence, and graduation outcomes, and on preparing students for success beyond graduation.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include overseeing all aspects of intercollegiate athletics and student life, including compliance, fundraising, budgeting, staffing and competitive success. Also included:
- Ensure adherence to conference and governing body regulations. Support recruitment, retention, and academic success of student-athletes.
- Supervise the Athletic Director and the Associate Dean of Students.
- Promote sportsmanship and integrity across all athletic programs.
- Provide leadership for key student services areas, including but not limited to:
- Residence Life and Housing
- Student Activities and Engagement
- Counseling and Wellness Services
- Campus Safety/Conduct
- Develop programs that enhance student engagement, leadership development, and co-curricular learning.
- Oversee student conduct systems and ensure fair and educational disciplinary processes.
- Collaborate with Enrollment Management to support recruitment and retention strategies.
- Utilize data and assessment to improve student satisfaction, persistence, and outcomes.
- Champion initiatives that support student well-being, belonging, and success both inside and outside the classroom.
- Develop and manage budgets for Athletics and Student Affairs.
- Allocate resources effectively to support institutional priorities.
- Pursue external funding opportunities, partnerships, and fundraising initiatives where applicable.
- Ensure institutional compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and ensure the timely data gathering and reporting for Title IX/EADA, Clery Act) and other federal and governing body reports.
- Oversee policies and procedures that promote campus safety and mitigate risk.
- Ensure compliance with applicable state and federal regulations and requirements.
- Coordinate with legal counsel and human resources on student-related matters.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Sports Management, or a related field; doctorate preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of direct, successful leadership experience in student life/affairs and athletics.
- Demonstrated success in strategic planning, staff supervision, and budget management.
- Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics governance and compliance.
- Strong commitment to student development, student engagement, athlete development, and athletic team roster management.
- Experience at a small college or mission-driven institution.
- Proven fundraising and external relations experience.
