The Dean of College and Career Readiness provides the overarching vision, strategic direction, and executive leadership required to realize the mission of the College and Career Readiness Department and the college at large. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Research and Adult Education, the Dean serves as the primary administrator for all Title II WIOA programs, including English as Second Language (ESL), Adult Basic Education (ABE) Adult Secondary Education (ASE), and High School Equivalency (HSE). This role balances high-level strategic planning with direct operational oversight, ensuring that the ABE, ASE, ESL, and HSE classes and Integrated Education and Training (IET) programs align with the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS) performance targets and regional workforce needs.
Primary administrative responsibilities include the stewardship of federal and state grant funding, where the Dean maintains full departmental budget authority, including the preparation of justifications for large expenditures for AVP approval. The Dean is responsible for the integrity and validation of all CCR data, ensuring that the National Reporting System (NRS) metrics are robust and ready for institutional research analysis.
To ensure the highest standard of instructional quality, the Dean is actively involved in ensuring instructional quality by conducting direct classroom observations of all full-time faculty and a designated portion of part-time faculty and ensuring professional development and high-quality instructional resources are available. By supervising a leadership team of the Director of Program Engagement and Evaluation and Faculty Academic Leads the Dean fosters a data-informed culture that prioritizes student retention, progression, and successful transition into post-secondary education or sustainable career pathways. As the department’s chief advocate, the Dean represents the program at the President Council level and ensures that Adult Education remains a vital, integrated component of the college’s broader academic and economic development mission.
Min Salary: $97,607.06
Mid Salary: $109,807.94- We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate’s experience level and qualifications related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience.
Education Required
- Master’s degree in Reading, English, Mathematics, or Education or related field from an institutionally accredited College or University.
Education Preferred
- Doctoral degree Reading, English, Mathematics, or Education or related field from an institutionally accredited College or University.
Experience Required
- Three years of progressive academic leadership experience within a Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title II Adult Education Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) program or postsecondary institution to include classroom observation.
- Five years of teaching experience in reading, English, mathematics, or ESL in Title II Adult Education or pre-collegiate mathematics or English in a post-secondary institution.
- Experience with staff and faculty supervision including performance evaluation.
- Experience in budget development and management.
- Experience in enrollment management, curriculum design, pedagogy, program administration, evaluation, instruction, Student Learning Outcomes (SLO’s) and academic advising in a Title II environment.
Experience Preferred
- Greater than three progressive academic leadership experience within a Title II Adult Education Family Literacy Act (AEFLA) program or postsecondary institution to include classroom observation.
- Greater than five years of teaching experience in reading, English, mathematics, or ESL in Title II Adult Education or pre-collegiate mathematics or English in a post-secondary institution.
- Experience with EDGAR and allowable expenditures for Title II
- Experience in building collaborative community/workforce education partnerships.
KSA Required
