Position Overview

This is a Senior Analyst (Environmental Health) position in the Environmental Health Intelligence NZ (EHINZ) team, which provides intelligence on New Zealand’s environmental health. EHINZ is contracted by the Ministry of Health and is based in the Centre for Public Health Research (CPHR) within the College of Health, Massey University (Wellington).

EHINZ operates five environmental health surveillance systems:

  •  Environmental health indicators
  •  Hazardous substances
  •  Environmental burden of disease
  •  Social vulnerability indicators
  •  The NZ Congenital Anomalies Register

This is a fixed-term contract until June 2026, based on our Wellington Campus. Funding for this position is provided by the Ministry of Health.

Salary band for this position is $56,622 – $80,006 based on skills and experience.

What you will be doing: The work includes analysing environmental health-related data and producing intelligence for publication and dissemination to our stakeholders and clients, including:

Providing technical expertise

  • Managing specified environmental health domains
  • Leading and contributing to EHINZ projects in the surveillance of NZ’s environmental health
  • Leading in the strategic development of new environmental health indicators
  • Contributing to the development of new analytical tools for the surveillance of environmental health
  • Conducting policy-relevant analysis of environmental health issues.
  • Provide technical support and mentoring to junior staff
  • Provide technical expertise to the maintenance of EHINZ domains
  • Assist in the maintenance and updating of the EHINZ Guidelines & Analytical Standards
  • Seek opportunities for funding from third-party sources for EHINZ projects
  • Lead and assist with other EHINZ projects as required.


Reporting

  • Managing the reporting requirements to the EHINZ funder
  • Producing surveillance reports on environmental health topics for dissemination and publication.
  • Producing data and intelligence on environmental health issues for ad-hoc requests from stakeholders and clients.
  • Producing ad-hoc reports on special environmental health topics.


Engaging with stakeholders

  • Maintaining existing and developing new relationships with stakeholders and clients
  • Giving presentations on the work of EHINZ.
  • Representing EHINZ at technical advisory meetings as required.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • A postgraduate degree in relevant subjects (essential).
  • Knowledge and experience in health, health science, science, epidemiology, geography, or statistics (essential)
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills (essential)
  • Ability to interpret and discuss the results of analyses and research (essential)
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Excel, SAS, or a similar software package (desirable)
  • Demonstrated ability to work in and lead teams (desirable)
  • Experience in project management (desirable)
