Our ethos is simple: WE over Me. It means that the needs of a community must always supersede the wants of an individual. In the Quinnite Nation you are not allowed to be selfish. Selfish people destroy the fabric of communities. They are the root of all evil and will never be tolerated in the Quinnite Nation. We are one of the most innovative colleges in America. We challenge the status quo at every turn. We were founded by the African Methodist Episcopal Church during a time when the fate of formerly enslaved people hung in the balance. Today, our work is even more necessary than it was when we opened our doors in the basement of Metropolitan A.M.E. Church in Austin, Texas on April 4, 1872. The Christian Philosophy of Education and the Institution’s Faith Statement communicate the College’s Christian Foundation and mission to address the academic, social and Christian development of students. As we prepare Christian men and women, we provide a balance between a challenging academic education and the building of character based on our foundational Christian beliefs and values. The Christian Philosophy of Education and the Faith Statement are published in their entirety in the College Academic Catalog and can also be viewed here: Consumer Information. Our mission, briefly stated, is to create change agents for the global marketplace. Our goal is to eradicate intergenerational poverty. We believe that in a country as wealthy as America, no one should live lives of scarcity. In an effort to do more than simply write about poverty, we created the Urban Work College Model. Our innovative approach allows us to provide our students with the training and resources needed to pull themselves and their families out of poverty. The Urban Work College Model:
  • Provides every residential Quinnite an internship (on-and off-campus).
  • These internships, and the stipend they pay, reduce our students’ dependency on student loans.
  • Students work an average of 15 hours per week.
  • Allows our students to gain the real world work experience that directly translates into better employment opportunities post-college.
