Biola University’s School of Fine Arts and Communication seeks a faculty member with specialization in Music Therapy to serve in the Conservatory of Music. Master’s Degree in Music Therapy required. Applicant should be a board-certified Music Therapist and a member in good standing with the American Music Therapy Association. Must meet the requirements for Academic Faculty as stipulated in the AMTA Standards for Education and Clinical Training

  • Holds an appropriate professional credential or designation in music therapy;
    • Holds a master’s degree in music therapy or related area, with a minimum of transcripted graduate credit equivalent to 12 semester hours or the equivalent of graduate credits in music therapy beyond the undergraduate equivalency requirements;
    • Has at least three years of full-time clinical experience in music therapy or its equivalent in part-time work;

    Clinical experience with various populations is required and expected. The ideal candidate will possess an outstanding record of teaching, scholarship, and service, dedication to the ideals of liberal learning, and an educational philosophy based on the centrality of Jesus Christ and the integration of faith and learning.

    Recruiting is essential to this position. The applicant will be expected to display evidence of successful recruiting at previous institutions. Mentoring and retention of students are also key components; in this respect, it is especially important that this individual should be able to display and articulate a dynamic faith in Jesus Christ, along with their affirmation of Biola’s theological positions.

    The Conservatory offers the following degree programs: Bachelor of Music in Performance, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Music in Composition with a concentration in New Media, Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in Commercial Music, Bachelor of Music in Worship Arts, and a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy. The Conservatory of Music has 9 full-time faculty members and is fully accredited with the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM), and the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA).
