Position Summary:

Located in sunny Miami, Florida, St. Thomas University is a private, non-profit university that offers 39 undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate degrees, including an undergraduate major/minor in Applied Mathematics and Data Science, and a Master’s Degree in Data Science.

The Mathematics Department invites applications for a Full-Time Assistant Professor or Instructor position, starting Spring 2026. We seek ambitious faculty members to help grow and strengthen the department by expanding teaching, research, and grant activity. The successful candidate will be committed to excellence in teaching students from diverse backgrounds and able to motivate, mentor, and advise students. Candidates with expertise in Data Science and Statistics are especially encouraged to apply, particularly those who can contribute to both teaching and research initiatives in these areas.

Essential Functions/Duties:

  • Teach undergraduate mathematics courses at all levels (typically 4 courses per semester) including Calculus, Statistics, Discrete Math and Linear Algebra.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment
  • Engage in scholarly activity, particularly in data science or statistics, when applicable
  • Support departmental and institutional service initiatives
  • Mentor students and contribute to the academic life of the department

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in Mathematics, Statistics, or closely related field including at least 18 graduate hours in mathematics from an accredited institution (Ph.D. required for Assistant Professor consideration)
  • Demonstrated ability to teach a wide range of undergraduate mathematics courses, including introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to inclusive teaching practices and student success in diverse learning environments

Education:

  • Ph.D. (Required for Assistant Professor position). Candidates with a Master’s degree will be considered for an Instructor position only.

Experience:

  • Research interests in Data Science, Applied Statistics, or a related field
  • Experience incorporating research into the undergraduate classroom
  • Experience with curriculum development and instructional technology
  • Ability to teach effectively in both in-person and online formats
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity and a plan for continued research engagement
