Position Summary:
The University of Northern Colorado seeks an equity-minded leader for the position of Vice Provost for Academic Resources and Faculty Affairs, a senior staff position in the Office of the Provost. As a key member of the provost’s leadership team and a key advisor to the provost, the incumbent provides leadership and guidance regarding academic resources and faculty affairs. The individual’s primary role is to work collaboratively with the academic leadership team, and within a shared governance environment, to ensure the strong fiscal, cultural, and academic health of the Division of Academic Affairs. As the chief advisor for academic resources and faculty affairs, the Vice Provost builds relationships cross-divisionally to strengthen the institution and provides oversight and support for resource plans – fiscal and human – within the colleges and all other Academic Affairs units, ensuring that the largest division of the university is effective in service to the core mission of teaching, learning, research and service at UNC.
Job Duties:
Strategic Budgeting and Planning 40%
- Works collaboratively to align fiscal planning and strategy with priorities in the Division of Academic Affairs by ensuring strong evidence-based, transparent, and equitable decision-making related to budget.
Faculty and Staff Affairs 30%
- In conjunction with the academic affairs leadership team and Human Resources, oversees processes related to the hiring, evaluation, and retention of faculty and staff members.
- Serves as the division’s primary point of contact for conflict resolution.
- Pro-actively refines and improves personnel processes to ensure they are effective and consistent.
Data-Based and Evidence-Based Academic Resource Management 15%
- Provides leadership regarding academic space planning, space allocation, and technology priorities and needs.
- Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders and leadership to ensure the development and maintenance of core data sets within the division and at the institution to inform outcomes- and metrics-based resource allocation.
Program Supervision 5%
- Oversees the Office of Global Engagement, the Office of Institutional Research & Effectiveness, and the Office of Academic Effectiveness.
Other Duties as Assigned 10%
- Other duties may include analyzing problems, researching possible solutions, crafting policies, implementing agreed upon strategies, and serving on task forces and ad hoc committees and working groups.
Minimum Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in an academic discipline represented at UNC; a similar terminal degree in an academic discipline not represented at UNC may also be considered.
- A record of accomplishments in teaching, scholarship, and service that would warrant an appointment as a professor with tenure.
- Five or more years of leadership of progressively responsible leadership experience, preferably in a higher education setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Evidence of a high degree of creativity and mature intellectual judgment, as well as a high level of diplomatic skill in working with a wide range of stakeholders while moving the needle on the creation of a culture of evidence-based decision-making and strategic resource allocation.
- Ability to lead and inspire within a shared governance, resource-constrained environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead effectively in support of diversity, equity, and inclusion, preferably in higher education.
- Deep, current knowledge about effective resource management in support of student, faculty, and staff success in higher education today.
- Experience in equitable employee hiring, retention, and evaluation practices.
- Demonstrated knowledge of both policy and practice in the areas of resource allocation and faculty personnel.
- Demonstrated experience with effective strategic budgeting.
- Ability to use data (both qualitative and quantitative) to identify problems and to offer solutions.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
