The University of Texas Permian Basin’s Department of Social Work welcomes applications for the position of a Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor and MSW Field Director

Salary Range

$75,000.00 depending on qualifications

Essential Functions

This position plays an essential role in the Social Work department at The University of Texas
Permian Basin, responsible for providing high-quality instruction, developing curriculum, and
mentoring graduate-level students. This tenure-track faculty role includes leadership of MSW
field education and collaboration with academic teams to ensure student competency and
ethical practice aligned with CSWE and NASW standards. Responsibilities include curriculum
development, field oversight, student evaluation, and continuous program improvement. The
position also engages in academic advising, committee work, and professional development.

  • Serve as Assistant or Associate Professor (Tenure Track) with teaching, research, and service

expectations.

  • Assist with and perform MSW Field Director duties as assigned, including practicum oversight

and agency engagement.

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses based on program need and area of expertise,

providing high-quality instruction grounded in CSWE competencies (minimum 9-10 SCH per
semester).

  • Engage students in critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and professional development

aligned with NASW and CSWE standards.

  • Advise students academically and professionally and support skill development throughout the

program.

  • Conduct and disseminate scholarly research consistent with tenure and promotion

requirements.

  • Contribute to program assessment, curriculum development, and continuous improvement

initiatives.

  • Support departmental recruitment, retention, and community partnership efforts.
  • Maintain compliance with CSWE accreditation standards and assist with data collection,

assessment, and reporting.

  • Provide service to the program, department, university, and broader community, including

participation on committees and faculty governance.

  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Program Director, Department Chair, or Dean

Required Qualifications

1. Degree: DSW/PhD in Social Work or closely related field. Work experience in social work
from a CSWE Accredited Program.
2. Licensure: Master Social Work (LMSW)
2. One (1) year experience, in asynchronous online learning
3. Strong ethical foundation, with experience in navigating dual relationships. Experience with
behavioral health, and/or medical/clinical social work.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or LCSW
2. Familiarity with the CSWE Accreditation process and higher education
3. Experiences in behavioral health, and/or medical/clinical social work.

Schedule

Generally, the normal work hours for the university are Monday through Thursday, 7:30 – 5:30 pm; Friday, 8:00 am – 12:00 pm with a one-hour lunch. The individual holding this position may need to be available early morning, evening, and on weekends to meet the needs of the department. Faculty hours may differ based on class schedule and department need.

Standard Working Conditions

1. Able to lift various materials up to 25 pounds on an occasional basis.
2. Able to bend, crouch, and reach continuously.
3. Physically able remain seated, frequently to continuously.
4. Able to remain standing up to 15% of the time.
5. Possesses dexterity abilities required to perform job duties including extensive keyboard work, operating office equipment, performing filing, and other job-related responsibilities that include extensive wrist and hand movement.
6. Standard working conditions may differ depending on department and occupation.
