The Department of International Affairs in the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time 9-month tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor to be based at the School’s Washington, D.C. teaching site. The anticipated start date for this position is August 1, 2026.

The successful candidate will carry a 2/2 teaching load and thus teach four courses per academic year in the Bush School’s professional master’s degree programs in International Affairs. Teaching responsibilities will include at least two elective courses focused on Asian security affairs, with particular emphasis on China and/or other East Asian regions, and two required courses, including International Relations theory and American Foreign Policy, based on departmental needs.

In addition to teaching, the successful candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda and produce a research portfolio that would merit tenure under Texas A&M University’s standard tenure and promotion process. A reasonable amount of departmental and professional service is also expected.

Key Responsibilities Teaching

• Teach four graduate-level courses per academic year (2/2 load) in professional master’s programs in international affairs.
• Develop and deliver at least two elective courses related to Asian security affairs, including China and/or other East Asian regions.
• Teach required courses in International Relations theory (INTA 606) and/or American Foreign Policy (INTA 605) as needed.
• Contribute to curriculum development aligned with the Bush School’s mission and Washington, D.C.-based programming.

Research

• Maintain an active scholarly research agenda in international affairs.
• Produce peer-reviewed research sufficient to meet tenure expectations within the standard tenure timeline.

Service

• Provide a reasonable level of departmental and professional service consistent with rank and tenure-track expectations.
• Contribute to the intellectual and academic life of the Department of International Affairs and the Bush School.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications

• • Ph.D. in a relevant field (e.g., Political Science, History, Sociology). Candidates who are ABD will be considered, provided they demonstrate clear progress toward completion.
  • Demonstrated teaching expertise in international affairs.
  • Ability to contribute to graduate-level instruction in professional master’s degree programs.
  • Scholarly focus on Asian security affairs, including China and/or other East Asian regions.
  • Experience teaching International Relations theory and/or American Foreign Policy.
  • Evidence of research productivity appropriate for a tenure-track appointment.
