Associate Professor in Mechanical and Materials Engineering
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering at Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track faculty positions in Quantum Science and Engineering, at the rank of Associate Professor. The anticipated start date is Fall 2026.
Applicants must hold an earned Ph.D. in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, Chemistry, or a closely related discipline and demonstrate a strong record of scholarly research with clear relevance to quantum materials. The department seeks candidates whose research focuses on spectroscopic approaches for the characterization of quantum materials, including but not limited to optical, vibrational, electronic, ultrafast, and time-resolved spectroscopies, as well as their application to understanding quantum phenomena and light-matter interactions.
Successful candidates are expected to establish and sustain externally funded research programs appropriate to rank and to publish in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals. They will contribute to the department’s teaching mission by developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in quantum science, materials characterization, and related areas. Additional responsibilities include mentoring graduate students, supervising doctoral research, participating in interdisciplinary research initiatives, contributing to curriculum development, and engaging in service activities at the department, college, and university levels.
The Department of Mechanical and Materials Engineering, enrolling more than 1,100 students across its programs, offers an ABET-accredited bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Mechanical and Materials Engineering.
