Job Description:

The Department of Psychology in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa, invites applications for a term faculty position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. This is a part-time (50% appointment) position with a standard teaching load of four courses per academic year, in person.

Responsibilities include teaching introductory psychology, research methods, and/or other undergraduate psychology courses. Course assignments may evolve over time and may include both online and in-person instruction, so experience or interest in online teaching may be beneficial. There may also be opportunities to teach courses aligned with the faculty member’s area of expertise.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent teaching and communication skills and a commitment to providing a supportive, and effective learning environment for all students. The position is a 9-month appointment with an initial term of three years, beginning August 16, 2026. Renewal for additional three-year terms is contingent upon performance and departmental needs. Opportunities to teach additional courses for additional compensation may be available.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.

Required Minimum Qualifications:

  • PhD in psychology or a closely related area by the time of appointment
  • Teaching experience at the college or university level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Record of excellence in teaching psychology at the university level
  • Experience teaching research methods in psychology
