The Music Department at Saint Xavier University invites applications for a full-time Professional Practice Lecturer to serve as Band Director beginning February 2026. This is a non-tenure-track position that is annually renewable based on program growth and sustainability. The successful candidate will have experience recruiting, developing, and administering a band program at the high school and/or collegiate level, including marching and concert band ensembles.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Successful recruitment for and administration of the band program.
  • Reconstitute the University Marching Band.
  • Conduct Wind Ensemble.
  • Teach music education methods courses, as needed.
  • Supervise and assist with placement of instrumental music student teachers.
  • Advise and mentor instrumental music education students.
  • Other classroom and studio assignments as needed commensurate with departmental needs and the candidate’s qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Music preferred, Master’s in Music acceptable.
  • Demonstrated success and experience developing and teaching instrumental music ensembles at the secondary school and/or collegiate level.
  • Evidence of successful professional experience in music.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively with music colleagues.
