Under the supervision of the Chairperson of the Division of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics, the individual serving in the capacity of Lecturer – “C” for science labs oversees the execution of ay-to-day laboratory preparations at the Main and West Essex Campuses. This involves the following duties and responsibilities:

This position offers a competitive faculty base salary of $60,000, determined by the candidate’s placement on the faculty salary step schedule.
Please note that this range is currently under negotiation as part of the bargaining unit agreement and may be subject to change upon final approval.

Duties & Responsibilities:
- Work closely with the Division’s Chairperson, Faculty and Laboratory Staff on the adoption and implementation of laboratory exercises that support teaching and learning activities in science courses.
- Work with lab staff to oversee the preparation of materials and setups for the divisions and science labs. This includes the evening and weekend sections at the Main and West Essex Campuses.
- Ensure accurate inventory, maintenance, and certification of equipment (e.g. fume-hoods, eye wash stations) in accordance with State, Federal and other regulatory agencies. This includes repairs, calibration, and testing of various equipment.
- Work with the Division’s Chairperson in monitoring the budget allocation in order to ensure sufficiency of funds for sustainability of laboratory operations. This includes efficient budget utilization while sourcing instructional material (specimen and equipment) from multiple vendors.
- Liaise with the college’s Purchasing Department in the procurement of resources and ensure selection of quality products for teaching and learning activities in the science experiments.
- Plan and coordinate laboratory staff schedules in order to ensure adequate coverage, during laboratory(ies)’ operating hours sessions at the Main and WEC campuses ..
- Supervise full-time and part-time laboratory specialists, and student workers (Federal Work Study) students.
- Ensure that the division’s laboratory remains compliant with Laboratory Safety Guidelines and in adherence to mandated Federal Regulations for Laboratory Practices, and Standards of Operation (OSHA and FEPA).
- Collaborate with internal and external departments e.g. Purchasing, Accounts Payable, Facilities, IT and Vendors. This includes identifying appropriate vendors for pick up /
removal of chemical and toxic waste materials accumulated during laboratory experiments, inspection of fume hoods in compliance with State, Federal, and other
Regulatory agencies. - Maintain accurate records of inventory by tracking deliveries of supplies, servicing of
laboratory equipment. - Prepare routine, special, and ancillary reports as required by the Chairperson.
Minimum Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences or a related area.
- Three or more years’ experience in operations within college / academic settings.
- Demonstrated knowledge of operating and troubleshooting laboratory equipment, laboratory protocols, hardware and relevant software.
- Working knowledge of computer applications preferably Microsoft Office Suite. Additional knowledge in data recording software e.g. Python, Excel etc is highly recommended.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Minimum Education Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred Experience:
1. Demonstrated knowledge of equipment used in science labs and how to operate the same.
2. Knowledge of use on BANNER to generate Purchase Requests.
3. High degree of reliability and flexibility.
4.Ability to work an extended, flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, according to demands of the role and tasks.
