Position Summary
The Rosenberg School of Optometry invites full-time, non-tenure track, faculty candidates for Clinical Professor of Optometry-Open Rank. The Clinical Professor is expected to conduct classroom and clinical laboratory teaching in optometry theory and the clinical examination course series, consistent with the department’s needs. This position may have responsibilities in the areas of ocular disease, pediatrics, and/or low vision.
In all matters, faculty are expected to maintain the highest standards of professional ethics consistent with the UIW Mission. Official duties and responsibilities of faculty members at the University include teaching, scholarship, service, and professional activities.
Academic credentials and experience of finalist will determine final rank-Senior Clinical Instructor, Assistant Clinical Professor, Associate Clinical Professor, and Full Clinical Professor.

Essential Functions
- Perform clinical duties in RSO Eye Care Clinics.
- Participate in curriculum development and advancement of the respective program.
- Prepare course outlines based on approved departmental syllabi.
- Prepare and deliver consistent, interactive course lectures that align with curriculum goals.
- Prepare and administer timely and meaningful exams, projects, and assessments for assigned courses.
- Advise and mentor students; provide individual assistance to students during weekly office hours.
- Adhere to UIW Faculty Handbook and RSO Supplement to Faculty Handbook policies and processes including timely record keeping of student activities, fair and equitable evaluation of student performance, and timely feedback to students regarding their performance in the course.
- Conduct respectful relationships with faculty, staff, and students both in and outside the classroom.
- Work collaboratively with departmental faculty to ensure curriculum outcomes and accreditation standards are met.
- Perform regular scholarly research and publication.
- Provide service to the respective department, college, university, community, and profession.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education
- OD from an accredited School or College of Optometry.
- Completion of a accredited residency program or equivalent experience.
Required Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as an OD is required for Senior Clinical Instructor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced academic degrees.
- Prior experience in residency training.
- Prior teaching experience.
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Licensure to practice full-scope Optometry in Texas; if a license is not possessed, the selected candidate must obtain an optometry license for the state of Texas by the date of assignment.

Based on course assignment.
Physical Demands
- Ability to actively engage with students in both a clinical and classroom setting throughout instruction periods.
- Ability to actively engage in events for extended periods.
- Ability to regularly move about campus and event venues to actively engage faculty, staff, and potential/current students, as well as attend meetings on and off campus.
